Since its establishment in 1983, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has played a crucial part in the music industry. Over the last few decades, the museum has recognized and honored artists and music legends for their contributions to music. This year, however, the committee has taken a slightly different path. It does not just celebrate rock music greatness but diversity in the music industry.
This year, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame claims to have the most diverse list of inductees in its almost four-decade-long history. It comes as a part of the hall’s commitment to “honor artists whose music created the sound of youth culture”.
What Makes Artists Eligible to be on the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame?
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is one of the most respected organizations in the music industry. And it is a great honor to be a part of the museum for artists and musicians alike. But what does it take to be eligible to be an inductee?
According to the organization, to be eligible to be inducted into the Hall of Fame, there are a few requirements artists need to fulfill. The most crucial requirement is that the inductees must have released their first record 25 years preceding induction. Then, the organization sends ballots to more than 1,200 international artists who cast their votes accordingly.
The voting bodies include members of the music industry, previous living inductees, and music historians. The organization takes factors such as an artist’s length and depth of career, influence on other artists, the body of work, superiority in style and technique, and innovation into consideration to be an inductee.
