They had their wedding against the wish of their parents on 18th April 2001. Their ceremony was held at St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church in California. Vanessa was not African-American and that was the reason their parents never accepted their marriage. Also, Kobe was too young to get married at that time according to his parents.

However, Kobe’s parents agreed after they became grandparents. After the birth of Gianna, her mother, Vanessa filed for a divorce in 2011 citing “irreconcilable differences” which was later called off. After the couple came to an agreement to lead a happy married life, they gave birth to two more daughters. However, one of Vanessa’s daughters, Gianna and her husband, Kobe had already left the family forever.

Passionate Basketball Player

We mentioned many times earlier that Gianna Bryant was so much passionate about sports, especially basketball. The inspiration for her dream of becoming a professional basketball player was her only father, Kobe. Once in a podcast, Kobe revealed what his daughter loved to watch sports, especially basketball. He told:

Do you know what’s funny? So before Gigi got into basketball, I hardly watched NBA games. But now that’s she’s into basketball it’s on every night. And I mean every game. She watches everything. She watches who I would watch, I guess.

Kobe had also mentioned during the same podcast on 9th January that Gianna was the reason for him to watch more NBA games after he took retirement. He always wanted to coach his daughter in order to develop her sport skills. Before he could manage more time with Gianna, they both left everything behind.

Gianna Bryant was not engaged in any social media sites before her death. She was so small in handling these things and was focusing on her studies as well as sports. However, she kept making appearances on his father’s social media accounts. Kobe had shared a lot of photos and videos with Gianna.

After his retirement in 2016, Kobe continued coaching Gianna and her middle school team. Since then, the bond between father and daughter had started building up. In September 2017, he shared two videos with Gianna on his social media and captioned one of them:
