More than films, Estelle grabbed huge public attention through her appearances in TV series. After playing in several episodes of several TV series, she appeared for seven years in the American sitcom, The Golden Girls as Sophia Petrillo in total 180 episodes.

Married Life: Husband & Children

The late-actress, Estelle Getty was a married woman. She remained married to her husband till his last breath. Her husband, Arthur Gettleman used to work in his father-in-law glass installation business. Although they had some inner conflicts between them during the mid-80s and mid-90, they managed to take care of their two children equally.

Mentioning their first meeting, the love birds were first encountered at a party which was held by Etty’s friends from the New York theatre circuit. Nine months after knowing each other, the love to had their wedding ceremony on 21st December 1947 in the United States.

The love partners were the parents of their two sons; Carl Gettleman and Barry Gettleman. Estelle lived together with her husband in the Bronx for a time and after the birth of their children, they shifted to Queens. Till the last breathe of her spouse, Etty took care of him. At last, Arthur died at the age of 85 on 24th September 2004.

After the death of her spouse, Estelle got involved in HIV/AIDS activism and helped her co-star and nephew to fight with the disease. She was not only focused on HIV/AIDS activism but was also a socialist and did many things for the society.

Died Three Days Before 85th Birthday

On one side, Estelle Getty was fulfilling her responsibilities to the society, however, on the other hand, she was entering her old age. As we can see in the heading, she died three days prior to her 85th birthday on 22nd July 2008 at her house in Los Angeles County, California.

Her death cause was likely to be Dementia with Lewy bodies which her family had reported. Her dead body was buried in Hollywood Forever Cemetery. Although she is now way too far from this world, her memories still remain in the hearts of her fans and admirers.
