On Wednesday the White House announced Kayleigh McEnany’s appointment as the fourth press secretary to Donald Trump. Ms. McEnany, 31, is the President’s experienced defender who has made regular appearances on television to support his policies. On the other hand, during her nine-month term, her predecessor, Stephanie Grisham, never held a single press conference.
McEnany, who turns 32 next week previously featured on former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee’s Fox News show. Additionally, she also worked as a pro-Trump analyst on CNN during the 2016 presidential election. Furthermore, she was the national spokeswoman for the Republican National Committee, then for the campaign for Trump’s re-election.

A Harvard Law School graduate and frequent contributor to CNN, Ms. McEnany made headlines for the president’s fiery defenses. As the nation struggling with COVID-19, she came under fire for her early comments on the virus, including the implication that opposition Democrats were utilizing the pandemic to take down the current dictator.

While appearing in the Fox Business show, concerning the COVID-19, she said:
“We will not see diseases like the coronavirus come here, we will not see terrorism come here, and isn’t that refreshing when contrasting it with the awful presidency of President Obama?“
Trump has previously called African nations “shithole countries” as president and spoke of a deadly white supremacist protest in Charlottesville, Virginia, saying:
“You also had people that were very fine people on both sides.“
Defending president trump, in the interview with the Fox Business Network in May 2018, she said:
“The president has come out multiple times saying he denounces all racism. We all denounce racism, that would include the president.“

Ms. McEnany was criticized for her previous support of the “birther” conspiracy theory challenging the origins of former President Barack Obama. In particular, she claimed that Obama was born not in the US, but rather in Kenya.
Back on 29 August 2021, Kayleigh, targetting Obama, twitted:
“How I Met Your Brother — Never mind, forgot he’s still in that hut in Kenya. #ObamaTVShows“
The tweet also played on myths of Africans living in huts alongside the baseless hit at Obama, who was born in Hawaii. In response to her tweet, on 7th April 2020, former President Bill Clinton’s press secretary Joe Lockhart shared her tweet writing:
“I’m sure she’ll face a lot of interesting questions if she ever gets to the podium. Have we had an openly racist person like this ever behind that podium“
