Rowan Baxter, who was leading a tumultuous married life with his wife, Hannah, died in a tragic Brisbane car fire with his three children. During his time at Tauranga Boys College, he participated in a pre-season game for the NRL in 2005. Following, he played for the New Zealand Warriors rugby league team.

Rowan Baxter had three children; two daughters and a son with Hannah. They all died in a car accident on 19th February 2020, all below the age of 10.
Their names were Laianah Baxter, Aaliyah Baxter, and Trey Baxter.
Rowan Baxter never talked anything about his family except for his brother, Charles Baxter. His brother, Charles is a former rugby player and played for Bay of Plenty Steamers. He had represented New Zealand at the international level from 2003 to 2007.
