Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawa is searching for eight Civilians from around the world to join him on a free ride around the moon in 2023. On Monday, he teased a big announcement regarding the journey. Anyone can enter for their chance to win a seat and to fly around the moon on the starship rocket.

Yusaku- the fashion mogul is the founder of online fashion giant Zozo as well as an art collector. He paid big bucks to Elon Musk’s SpaceX. Originally in 2023, he planned to invite artists for the weeklong voyage slated.

According to the Maezawa, “the rejigged project will give more people from around the world to join the journey. If you see yourself as an artist, then you can apply for the Application Process”.

Application Process:

According to the website, the pre-registration application will begin on March 14, 2021. The pre-registration application requires a name, country, valid email address, and profile picture. The second is the initial screen that begins on March 21, 2021. By the end of May, The successful applicants will receive final interviews and medical checkups. After that, the selected civilians will focus more on mission training.

At the end of June, eight crew are selected and after that training will start for the selected crew. By 2023, the first part of the preparation schedule, the mission will last until “lift-off”.

For joining the crew, there are only two qualification requirements. Firstly the application is “push the envelope” towards improving society. However, this will support the crew member who does the same. Secondly, the selected participant’s crew has some kind of scientific or engineering discipline that is related to the operation of a spacecraft.

Those who are not selected will receive a consolation prize in the form of a promotional image with their face.

The #dearMoon mission:

The first announcement of the dear moon mission was in 2018.  According to Maezawa, ‘the mission include 10 to 12 crew members with him.  Eight civilians will be selected as part of the #dearMoon mission. The eight slots are available for the general public by applying through the mission website. The dearMoon mission is meant to be dramatic proof of the utility of Starship space for the trip round to the Moon.
