A piece of news that’s been surrounding Hollywood for a while is, is Emilia Clarke replacing Amber Heard in DCEU’s Aquaman 2? Given Amber Heard’s nasty legal battle going on with her ex-husband Johnny Depp, it rather seemed likely.
However, as much as we’d like to see that happening, the news still remains a mere rumor.
In November 2020, actor Johnny Depp was let go by the makers of the Fantastic Beasts franchise. As the news of his legal battle with Amber Heard circulated, Warner Bros. Pictures was eventually compelled to take the action.
But before that, Disney also fired Depp from Pirates of the Caribbean, one of his most prominent roles.
However, Warner Bros. firing Deep did not sit well with the fans of both Depp and the Fantastic Beasts franchise. And it all had to do with Amber Heard.
The argument everyone put forward was that Heard was the one who abused Depp, and not the other way around. But Depp couldn’t prove his innocence and lost the case with The Sun that called him a “wife-beater”.
Amid all the allegations, Warner Bros. fired Depp but Amber Heard continued playing Mera in Aquaman 2. So, fans started an online petition calling the filmmakers to remove Amber Heard from Aquaman 2.
As the online petition garnered more attention from people, fans quickly weighed in on the situation. And rumors started speculating that Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke is likely to replace Amber Heard in the role of Mera. Given Clarke’s charm and excellent chemistry with lead actor Jason Momoa, the rumor seemed rather believable. There were also fan arts and posters of Emilia replacing Amber as Mera.
However, as true as most people want the rumor to be, there is no base for the news. Neither Warner Bros. nor the actors have confirmed it to be true.
In fact, there are talks that Amber might appear in Zack Snyder’s Justice League as a more prominent figure, Mera. And rumors of her pay raise are also circulating equally. However, her screen time in Aquaman 2 might be reducing as Warner Bros. plan to introduce another female lead.
Whether Emilia Clarke replaces Amber Heard on Aquaman 2 is a story for another day. But what’s more important to know is the future of both Depp and Heard at Warner Bros. The trials are set for later this year.
