Here are the Upcoming Live-Action Disney Remakes

Disney films have always been a huge part of almost all of us growing up. Whether it’s the iconic princesses and their stories, the villains and their cruel intentions, the princes and savior tales, or simply great friendships.

We’ve learned to absolutely love some characters while loath a few.

And for years, Disney has made it possible for every generation to relate to their iconic characters in one way or the other.

And the best way to do it is by coming out with remakes ever so often.

Thanks to better technology, Disney has gone from making cartoons to live-action films and animations.

It’s only July and there were some really amazing films that Disney put out. For example Dumbo, Aladdin, and Toy Story 4.

Now the other half of 2019 is even more magnificent and so is the year 2020.

Here are all the Disney live-action remakes coming up and in the works.

The Lion King (July 19, 2019)

The Lion King

The Lion King is one of the most loved Disney films that was released in 1994. And it’s live-action remake is set to hit the theater on July 19, 2019.

The film stars Danny Glover, Beyonce, James Earl Jones, and Seth Rogan, just to name a few.

Maleficent: Mistress of Evil (October 18, 2019).

Maleficent: Mistress of Evil

For years, we’ve hated the villains or the negative characters from every Disney movie.

But in 2014, Disney came out with the story of Maleficent, the witch that curses Princess Aurora in Sleeping Beauty.

This film gave us the part of the story we never learned when we read or watched Sleeping Beauty.

Five years later Maleficent is coming back with a sequel with Maleficent: Mistress of Evil.

The live-action film is set to hit theaters with the original cast members Angelina Jolie and Elle Fanning along with the newest member Michelle Pfeiffer on October 18, 2019.

Mulan (March 27, 2020)

After years of speculations on whether we get to see a live-action version of the fierce warrior Mulan, it’s finally coming.

Chinese actor Liu Yifei plays the lead role along with Donnie Yen, Jet Li, Jason Scott Lee, and Gong Li.

One thing that’s confirmed about the live-action version is that it won’t be a musical, unlike the 1998 film.

Cruella (December 23, 2020)

Another one of our favorite Disney villains is getting her own live-action remake and it’s none other than Cruella de Vil from 101 Dalmatians.

Emma Stone plays the half-black-half-white haired villain whose origin story is the theme of the live-action film.

Director of I, Tonya, Craig Gillespie directs the film that is set to release on December 23, 2020.

Little Mermaid.

The Little Mermaid

Another Disney princess coming back to the big screen with a live-action spin is Ariel from Little Mermaid.

O July 3, Disney announced that they found their Ariel and it was singer/actor Halle Bailey.

This turned out to be a move that lots of fans hated because according to them Ariel is “white”.

Despite the comments, Disney is keen to have Halle who plays Skylar Forster is the TV series Grown-ish and is one half of the R&B duo Chloe x Halle.

Other cast members are yet to be revealed along with filming and release dates.

Prince Charming.

Prince Charming

It’s not just the Disney princesses or villains that are getting a live-action spin.

Prince Charming is also in the talks to come out as a live-action Disney movie.

But the question still remains on which story will be played out, Cinderella or Snow White, since both the princes have the same name.

Rose Red.

Rose Red

Disney is set to bring out the story of one of the minor characters of Snow White and see the world through her eyes.

Rose Red is Snow White’s sister who wasn’t a part of the Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, however, was seen in the original fairy tale by the Grimm brothers.

Peter Pan and Tinkerbell.

Peter Pan and Tinkerbell

Two of J.M. Barrie’s best-known characters Peter Pan and Tinkerbell are getting their individual live-action films.

Even though there have been other versions of Peter Pan in the past, the brand new remake will be directed and co-written by David Lowery.

Peter Pan’s love interest Tinkerbell is also set to hit theaters soon. Reese Witherspoon is set to play the fairy in live-action film Tink.
