Cult Classics are those projects, films, or books that have a vast following. Movies are, referred to by many as cult classics rather than books.

Also called cult film or cult movie, they have a fandom dedicated to them, creating a cult-like society. The fanbase dedicates and is passionate about such movies where the members continuously watch the movies, discuss the scenes, quote the dialogue, and participate in events devoted to it.

Usually, series or franchises are cult classics. Be it fantasy like Star Wars, Star Trek, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, or horror franchises like Halloween, Friday the 13th, Scream, and Evil Dead; these movies have a massive dedicated fanbase.

However, today we are focusing on single movies that have been fan-favorite since their release. So here we have picked five of our favorite cult classics.

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World

They released this romantic action comedy movie in 2010—the film on ‘Scott Pilgrim,’ a graphic novel series. The film revolves around a 22-year-old bassist named Scott Pilgrim, who falls in love with a delivery girl, Ramona Flowers. 

He only has two motives: winning a competition, getting a record deal, and being with Ramona. However, it is not as easy as it seems since Scott needs to battle with Ramona’s seven exes to fulfill his motives. 

Coraline

Based on a book by Neil Gaiman, Coraline is a 2009 American stop-motion animated movie. The genre of the film is dark fantasy and horror. The story follows Coraline, an 11-year-old girl who moves to the Pink Palace Apartments, a new neighborhood. 

Desperate to get her parent’s attention and better society, Coraline stumbles upon a parallel universe where she finds what she is looking for. However, not everything is what it seems. 

American Psycho

Released in 2000, they base American Psycho on a novel of the same name. The satirical slasher film revolves around Patrick Bateman, who calls himself an ‘American Psycho.’

Patrick is an investment banker from New York City who hides his second life from his friends and co-workers. He is an infamous serial killer who preys on prostitutes, colleagues, and random strangers. With Patrick trying to balance his life, the movie ends on a note that you never see it coming. 

Clueless 

Clueless is a coming-of-age comedy movie released in 1995. The film is iconic, from its outfits to dialogues which recreated almost 26 years later. Clueless also has had its influence in fashion and music as Clueless and Iggy Azalea’s music video influenced Versace’s 2018 collection for ‘Fancy.’

As the name goes, the movie follows a rich, famous, and clueless Cher Horowitz who befriends a new girl in school, Tai Frasier. Desperate to help Tai recognizes and have a boyfriend, Cher reflects on her life and priorities.

The Princess Bride 

The Princess Bride is a fantasy adventure comedy film making its presence in 1987. Adapted from a novel of the same name, the movie is about a loving grandfather reading a story to his sick grandson.

The said story revolves around a farmhand Westley and a beautiful woman, Buttercup, who love each other. However, due to a series of unfortunate occurrences, the two became apart. And now he must overcome several challenges and adventures in order to reconcile with his true love.
